EndNote: Exporting EndNote Libraries

Exporting to RIS

 

Exporting your EndNote library to RIS format will allow you to open it in different referencing software, including RefWorks, Mendeley and Zotero.

To export your library use the Export references icon in EndNote.

Then, give your file a name and press save. You can also export only some selected references by ticking the check box marked Export Selected References.

Save your file

You can then import this file into other referencing software to rebuild your reference library there.

Exporting to BibTeX

 

To export your library to BibTeX, use the Export references icon in EndNote

Then in the save option, use the drop down menu next to Output style to choose Select Another Style

A pop up window of styles will open. Choose BibTeX export from the list and press the Choose button

Press save to complete the process.

Exporting to CSV/Excel

 

Exporting from EndNote to CSV has recently become easier, thanks to a new Tab Delimited style made available by Clarivate. You can find the new Tab Delimited style on the Clarivate page linked below.

Instructions are also on the page, but to summarise the steps:

1. Download  the new Tab Delimited Style

2. Open the file that downloads and save it to EndNote

3. Select the new Tab Delimited style as a favourite

4. Select references and do right click > copy formatted

5. Paste into Excel in cell A2
