This guide contains resources and guidance to help students studying international studies courses.

Foreign languages at UTS 

 

The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences offers the following six language & culture programs.

  • Chinese
  • French
  • German
  • Italian
  • Japanese
  • Spanish

Library collection

 

The Library has increased foreign language learning collections for Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese and Spanish.  You can browse on the shelves or search the following general call numbers to see resources for different languages.

Foreign language films

 

The Library has a good collection of foreign language films supporting language learning. 
To find a list of films for a language, do a catalogue search with ‘feature films’ > refine with ‘videos’ and a language.

China Library

 

The China Library is a collection of China resources covering philosophy, politics, history, education, culture, science and technology, Chinese language and contemporary Chinese life. Approximately 50% of publications are in English or bilingual. The collection is updated regularly.
Items are available for loan and can be requested from the Library Retrieval System.


To find the list of the collection, do a catalogue search with “China library”, then find ‘Special Collections’ on the left-hand side menu, select ‘China Library’.


To find a list of specific resources, add a keyword after “China library”.
Example: “China library” AND literature (refine with ‘Special Collection – China Library’).

Language tools and websites

 

Dictionaries

The Library has many language dictionaries. You can find these by searching the Library Catalogue. Just enter [your language] + dictionary (e.g. French dictionary) into the search bar.
