Citing GenAI images in APA 7th

Check with your tutor to ensure using Generative AI (GenAI) content in assignments is acceptable.

You can reproduce and cite a GenAI image in your work, either in the main body of your writing or in an appendix. For example:

Image of a cited reproduced image - Figure 1: Teddy bears working on new AI research underwater with 1990's technology

How to cite a reproduced image:

  • Above the image, create a figure label in bold, e.g: Figure 1.
  • Beneath the figure label, place the title of the image in italics. If the image has no title, you can create a brief title of your own.
  • Beneath the image, create an in-text citation for the image.
  • Include a matching entry in your reference list.
